Our Living Room

in the past five years of living in our home, our living room has taken the longest to come together.  the sectional we owned fit the room perfectly, but didn't really "fit" if you know what i mean.  that, paired with the dark media center we had really made the space feel small.  i knew i needed to lighten it up and make better use of the space.  i kept that in mind as we purchased our new couch and rearranged the furniture several times.  if you ask my husband, he would be able to tell you how much i love symmetry and ninety degree angles.  corner fireplaces and televisions really interfere with that.  after trying every layout possible, however, it was clear that putting our tv in the corner was the best use of space in this room.  even though i am a compulsive rearranger, i haven't moved a thing since trying this layout.  it just works!  i also found that throwing a few green plants in here really finished the space off.

after purchasing the couch, we found two chairs on craigslist to add more seating.  we had custom slipcovers made, which you can read more about here.  we loved having an ottoman when we had our sectional, so we made our own to replace it.  we also needed a place to set drinks and snacks, so we purchased end tables from ikea and customized them to work in our space.  after adding the decor and finishing touches, i finally feel happy with how this room has turned out.
